Prayer

Prayer is a relationship with the Father. Because He is our Father, and we are His children, we are dependent upon Him for anything and everything within our lives. We don't pray in order to have our needs met. We pray because we have needs. This is how we are constantly aware of His presence in our lives and the way that our relationship is formed.

God is sovereign -- He has control over all nature and all creation. The Bible teaches us that what happens to us is a direct consequence of our relationship with our Creator, because it is God who is in charge of all that happens in the physical world. What happens to me, and how that affects me is determined by my relationship to the Creator.

Prayers can be short or long as long as they come from an intimate relationship with our heavenly Father. The shortest prayer recorded in the Bible is the prayer of Moses when he discovered that his beloved sister Miriam has been afflicted with leprosy. He cries out to God from the depths of his being: "Please, Lord, heal her now."

In short, prayer is practicing the presence of God. We abandon our pride, lift up our countenance to Him who knows us best, and relate to Him through intimate, constant conversation. Prayer brings peace - peace and contentment in knowing that God is on the throne, and nothing can thwart His plan. Philippians 4:6-7 says, ""Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Prayer is the lifeline of our faith, our entrance into God's presence, and our common denominator with Him, the One who loves us beyond our wildest hopes and dreams. He understands all of our weaknesses and our shortcomings. Who else could possibly hold that position? Talk to Him, praise Him, and tell Him that you love Him right in the middle of whatever is happening in your day. He rejoices over YOU!
