Desperate people do desperate things
I have been preaching lately alone the lines of Desperate people do Desperate things. We could go through several situations in scripture however the story that we will use is the Lady with the issue of Blood. I will go ahead and share the verses
Mar 5:25 A woman who had had a hemorrhage for twelve years,
Mar 5:26 and had endured much at the hands of many physicians, and had spent all that she had and was not helped at all, but rather had grown worse
Mar 5:27 after hearing about Jesus, she came up in the crowd behind {Him} and touched His cloak.
Mar 5:28 For she thought, "If I just touch His garments, I will get well."
Mar 5:29 Immediately the flow of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction.
Mar 5:30 Immediately Jesus, perceiving in Himself that the power {proceeding} from Him had gone forth, turned around in the crowd and said, "Who touched My garments?"
We see the scenario already, a Lady who had spent everything she had and had not improved at all with her affliction however we think that just maybe that was it in a nutshell however I really don't think we know how desperate and miserable she really was. According to Levitical Law she was determined to be unclean during the times of her bleeding so everything she touched and laid down upon was considered unclean as well. I began to compare her to a leper even though she was not. The Lady could not, if she had a family, have interaction with her family. She could not lay with her husband, she could not caress her children, nor could she go to socials. She really couldn't go to ''temple'' or what we call church.
This was indeed a desperate Lady however she decided to go to Jesus when she had spent all she had and used all the modern day medical field had to offer. The scripture says she got worse. Jesus had just set free the demon possessed person free and a worried Father had beckoned him to come to his home due to the illness of his daughter.
Mar 5:21
When Jesus had crossed over again in the boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered around Him; and so He stayed by the seashore.
Before he was beckoned the scripture says a Large crowd had gathered around him and some were there for the right reasons and some were there for their own agendas my point being a lot of commotion a lot of motives but Jesus was still focused on his mission. I am in awe how awesome God really is. We as a kingdom worship him corporately while all alone he knows me by name and he does nothing by accident. Individually I do matter to him.
I would have thought I have to get to house of Jairus, so clear the street and get everybody out my way but God in the form of man through his son, stopped and had time for this Lady. They did have a conversation until after the fact of the healing. She had thought within herself if I just touch his garments, [turned out to be the hem of his garment] What did she have to lose she didn't have anything monetarily, she had no pride, and in essence she had no companionship.
She instantly received what a doctor, worry, self-pity, nor family member could give her. She was made whole but the latter Scripture is what really gets me. The place was crowded, he knew he was headed to Jairus home, he was no doubt being brushed against by people everywhere some for entertainment[remember he just cast out demons] some for intrigue, but one out of desperation. He asked who touched me? The Lord knew someone was there for the right reason and motive. I can't help believe the Lord was saying as he was going through the crowd saying ''pardon me'', ''excuse me'' ''sorry miss'' ''I didn't mean to bump you'' then out of all of the chaos he stopped because someone touched him. I must stop here and say why do you go to the presence of the Lord, why do you go to church, why do you interact in the kingdom.
Mar 5:30
Immediately Jesus, perceiving in Himself that the power {proceeding} from Him had gone forth, turned around in the crowd and said, "Who touched My garments?"
Mar 5:31
And His disciples said to Him, "You see the crowd pressing in on You, and You say, 'Who touched Me?' "
Mar 5:32
And He looked around to see the woman who had done this.
Mar 5:33
But the woman fearing and trembling, aware of what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth.
She came because of faith, honesty, and desperation. She knew he could heal, She had a genuine need, and she had no one else to turn to. We can learn from this. Jesus needs to be our first resort.
