Entertained to death

I have been speaking along the lines of the family and church and how it just may be that both Godly institutions just may be dying from a steady dose of Entertainment. I believe in family vacations and I believe in various church activities that are out of the normal services but it seems that we seem to yearn more for abnormal and self centered satisfaction.
Mat 16:18 "I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.

Mar 10:6 "But from the beginning of creation, {God} MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE.
Mar 10:7 "FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER,
Mar 10:8 AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH; so they are no longer two, but one flesh.
Mar 10:9 "What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate."

I must realize that what serves as the foundation of the church is also the foundation of the family. I know we live in the era of praise teams, eloquent speakers, social functions, and even free stuff to attract people to church and to keep them connected to a local body. We preach salvation and we have activities and we love the corporate move. Youth have lock-ins, drama ministries. even their own services at times and I am not against this whatsoever however when the activities are done and we have to settle back in to the corporate worship where we are less noticed are we still committed to the cause of Christ. Our forefathers use to call just ''prayer meeting'' and people would come and didn't mind losing their time and it didn't take a cup of coffee or a sandwich to get them to come it was genuine desire to reach the heart and the throne of God.When someone is singing instead of us are we still worshipful, or are we mad because it isn't us. If someone else is leading the worship and we are not do we still put our effort in. If someone else is preaching, teaching, or if it is a different type of music do we stay at home so we can be better entertained, or do we go regardless to the house of God because it is not about me it is about God.The church cannot misinterpret worship and entertainment because they are not synonymous with each other and the place where you discern one from another is in the individual.
The family faces a similar problem. I realize that times are different and when there are two parents working in the home time is a precious commodity. There was a time where families would have supper at the table together and talk to each other.Homes only had one television. There are several in many homes now. When supper is ready we take ours and go sit in front of the television disregarding the opportunity to have meaningful conversation with our family. The sad part is we have to take a vacation to do this. You may be thinking well at least you are watching television together but if you don't like what is playing in the main room you can always go to another room and watch what you want because we are not being entertained. We give our children Computers, Ipods, psp's, and other means of personal entertainment and instead of us imparting godly things in them we are allowing entertainment to raise our families. We depend on Christian television to give our children and family what we need.
We can't allow entertainment to replace vital realtionships with our families and most of all replace our relationship with God. I don't want my son or daughter to say my dad was good at a video game or a hobby I want them to be able to say he was my friend as well as my parent. He was a Godly man because he demonstrated it in front of me and didn't have it taught to me by the latest software.
I would love to see the day where the parking lot would fill up but not due to an activity but an opportunity to worship God no matter what is schedule for that service....
