It's In God's Hands

It’s In God’s Hands

Never can truer words be spoken when referring to a safe haven. Who wouldn’t take refuge if offered? The answer would be, those who did not know that such a place truly existed. I confess that once upon a time I was one of those people.
My motto and catch phrase was “If it’s to be then it’s up to me”. That holds true in that the Lord helps those who help themselves but back then I didn’t see it that way and thought I was the captain of my ship and I alone guided the helm. Weathering many of life’s storms and caught in violent squalls’. More than once I had muttered “The sea is so great and my boat is so small”.
If I were to list some of my traits, somewhere near the top would be procrastination. Something I seem to do fantastically well. I think I’m in the pro league actually or should be. If only I had checked my charts sooner I would of noticed a quiet , secure and sheltered port by the name of Jesus.
Upon noticing that I would also of discovered that my steering wheel was not connected to anything. Only a prop serving the purpose of making me feel as if I were contributing to the guidance of my wellbeing. The real controls were above the wheelhouse, far above the wheelhouse and God’s hands were upon that wheel.
Of course I’m only speaking figuratively as I am not an “old salt” and in fact for me to be out at sea would require and exceptionally large ship for me to venture out pass the sight of land. Give me a lake or river any day.
I had heard “It’s in God’s hands” many times throughout my lifetime but only in the past thirteen years have the significance and meaning of those words become so clear to me. It was during the ten years that the Lord blessed me with my sweetheart (she’s three years now at home with Jesus) that this enlightenment came to be. “It’s in God’s hands” was her catch phrase and something she said often.
She had thousands of friends (this is true, she did) and one would come to her with a problem. She would say “Lord you know their needs”. If someone would need to get to another town or city, it would not be very long before another friend would call her with the news that they were going on a trip to the exact same place where her other friend needed to be. To this she would say “Thank you Lord”.
These events were common place in the home that we shared. She could not feed a multitude of people with a single loaf of bread but bless her heart if she did not give her best effort to try to do so. I have typed the last few paragraphs with tears in my eyes. Composite tears I call them. Made half of joy that she is with Jesus and half of sorrow that she is not beside me right now. But to use another phrase of Jeannie’s “This too shall pass”. We will be together again in the Lord’s home.
So if you find yourself staring at huge waves breaking over your bow take notice that if you turn your wheel to the right, you may notice the heading is to the left, do not be alarmed but be reassured that a more experienced navigator is at the helm.
Place your troubles ,woes and sorrows in God’s hands for it is the best place for them to be. He knows what to do with them far better than you or I. :)
