Why Christmas

In the beginning God created heaven and earth. He created everything, the sun, the moon, the stars, and earth, all things He created. He made man in His own image and set him in a beautiful garden. Yet that man chose to disobey and caused a separation between God and man.

He was glorious is his kingdom yet He came as a tiny, humble baby, born in a small town and laid in a manger. Just like us He was totally dependent on his parents for his care, He felt the same needs and pains that we do He grew up poor and worked alongside Joseph in his carpenter shop.

He did not come to the great city of Jerusalem where you may expect royalty to be born. He came to a small, little known town, was born in a stable. He came quietly and humbly of a young girl with her espoused. Only the animals were there to witness His birth.

This little baby that came so humbly could have come as a king, in royalty and acclaim. But were royalty called to extol Him? No, simple shepherds were told of His arrival. Three wise men from the east followed a star and came bearing gifts to the one who was the gift of God to us.

We do not know the exact date of His birth, even that was not told. But does it matter? He came, He lived among us, and He died and rose again. Just as an orphan may not know the date of his/her birth and is given one by others, we have a day we can remember, give thanks and spread the love that brought Him among us. We share gifts with each other to remember the gifts given him. We give gifts, because we have the greatest gift of all.

This little baby, humble, poor and sweet came to set us free. To bring us back into a relationship
with God, His Father. He came as a human, this Son of God. He did not come with purple clothes and a sceptor. He did not come with a powerful army, He did not come as anything but a tiny baby. But what a baby this was. So afraid was the governor that he tried to kill him. He could not. He grew up as an obedient child to his earthly parents. He grew in wisdom and stature.

He left a paradise, and came and saw the strife of man. He saw the hopelessness, the poverty, the pain, the need of the people as He grew. He experienced it all with them.

He knew hunger, He knew thirst, He knew exhaustion, He knew all that we feel and need.
He knows today, and He understands us more than we can imagine.
He could have come as a king with royalty but what He came for did more for us than any king could ever do.
He came to show us the Father. He came to give hope and life and spirit to downtrodden souls.
He came to set us free from bondage, slavery to sin.
He came to bring us the kingdom of God right into our midst and into our hearts.
This baby grew up to be the Lamb of God, slain for you and me.

Who is this baby? JESUS THE CHRIST
He is the REASON for the SEASON!
Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, goodwill towards men.
